Hello everyone! (And welcome to all the new subscribers!)

It’s been a crazy month since the last newsletter! A lot of things are happening, and the anxiety and tension ahead of the launch are starting to build up. My goal is still to launch between February and April 2026.

Let’s take a look at what I’m working on at the moment 🙂

Sky Empire Gamefound campaign

Of course, my main focus is entirely on Sky Empire, the campaign page, and the launch of the game. I’m working hard to make sure everything is ready in time for launch, while also getting a head start on what comes after the campaign—once it’s (hopefully!) funded.

This includes things like adjusting miniatures for manufacturing, as shown in the picture below:

I’m also working on perfecting the large number of cool add-ons I want to offer for the game. Some of them arrived just a few days ago and are already being tested—like these deluxe dice for shield and structure values, and a neoprene playmat.

What I really like about this neoprene playmat is that it includes the instructions for building the game map yourself, printed right at the bottom.

Other Sky Empire news

I’m also very happy to share that I’ve almost signed two licensing deals for the game in different languages—one of them being German, which has been requested a lot.

On top of that, I’ve been approached by some very cool people from Polyfeder Verlag, who are interested in using the Sky Empire universe for an RPG! How cool would that be?! They would be in charge of writing the narrative, while I’d be able to contribute and support the project from the side. It sounds like a really fun collaboration, and something I’d absolutely love to do.

I’ve also been contacted by a couple of large retailers from around the world. If I manage to strike some deals here, it could allow me to lower the crowdfunding goal of the campaign, while also benefiting from higher print quantities. Very exciting times!

Finally, I’ve started slowly building ideas for a potential Sky Empire expansion, “Purple Moon.” For now, this is limited to small bits of lore and brainstorming, and of course any expansion will depend on the success of the campaign itself.

In other news

In other news, I can finally show a bit more of another game I’m working on—(whenever I need time off from the Dopplers!)

I’m hoping to launch this game alongside the Sky Empire expansion as my next projects, once the Sky Empire core game is well underway and in the hands of backers.

I think some designers get caught too quickly in a loop of making games that look too similar to each other. My all-time favorite genre is, of course, 4X, but I’d really love to explore other avenues of board game design as well.

That’s why my next game will lean more toward a Eurogame, aiming for a complexity level somewhere between Ark Nova and Wingspan. The game is called “Whale Song.” In it, you inherit your parents’ small whale safari company in the Azores, starting with just a single boat. Your goal is to scale the business to gain popularity, while also contributing to research on these magnificent creatures.

You’ll build advertising buildings, vigia huts (lookouts), anchor spots, gift shops, and more to grow a successful company. You’ll also take tourists and scientists out on whale safaris in the blue waters off the coast of the Azores, searching for the various whale species that live there.

An early prototype image can be seen below (and no—it’s nothing like Galactic Cruise 😉).
