Soon to be revealed..

Status!

Hello everyone, and welcome to the 12th newsletter from Greymarsh Games!

As promised earlier, I’ll aim to differentiate this newsletter from the updates on the Sky Empire campaign over at Gamefound. So, on that note, just a quick status update:

  • Preview copies have been received from EA STAR, and the next Gamefound update will most likely include an unboxing to showcase the game’s components in more detail.
  • Preview copies are also being sent out to our trusted YouTubers!
  • Playtesting is currently underway, and early signs suggest that Cleptor—when played correctly—is indeed as strong as Zwirler, so no additional balancing may be needed.
  • I’ve also gotten in touch with a Danish board game club that will help with playtesting and provide valuable feedback.

The plan is for the game to be very close to its final stage and balance by the time the campaign launches (currently targeted for June 30th), allowing for a much faster shipping timeline compared to typical crowdfunding campaigns!

Essen Spiel 2025:

I haven’t made much progress on the airship yet, aside from having a couple of printers running non-stop. I’ll share an update once I start assembling it.

Birth of the [3DASS]!

Now for the main topic of this newsletter — the [3DASS]!

Without further smokescreen, let me tell you what it is:

[3DASS] stands for 3-Dimensional Action Selection System. It’s an evolved form of the action selection system used in Scythe (which, to be fair, was also inspired by earlier board games).

[3DASS] Different prototypes!
If you look at the left wheel, you’ll notice it contains two circles. The key idea is that the top circle can rotate, allowing for different combinations of inner and outer actions. The top handle lets you turn the selection mechanism
.

What makes the [3DASS] special is that both the inner and outer action circles can be rotated, creating dynamic combinations instead of a static board like in Scythe. On top of that, the selector itself is rotatable, helping players easily identify the two available action options. This also enables a system where buildings and other elements can block specific actions until they’re unlocked or constructed.

The goal is for this system to be usable across a wide range of very different games—while still making it much, much faster for players to grasp the rules and jump into even the most complex games within minutes of setup.

It can be configured in different variations, such as:

  • 4×4 (4 inner and outer actions) for medium complexity

  • 4×8 for medium-high complexity

  • 8×8 for high complexity

While developing this system, I realized that my mission statement has evolved since the first newsletter I sent out back in June last year. That’s the great thing about being a one-man band—I’m not stuck. I stay agile, and I figured… why not just change it?

Old Mission Statement:

To spread the thrill of 4X board games to passionate gamers worldwide, beginning with the epic adventure of Sky Empire!

New Mission Statement:

Greymarsh Games will work towards delivering epic board game experiences across all genres to gamers worldwide—powered by the [3DASS] system, which enables fast and easy learning, even for the most complex games!

This project is incredibly exciting to me, and I can’t wait to share more with you soon!

That was the 12th newsletter from Greymarsh Games!

In the next newsletter, I will tell more about the 4 different games that I am developing right now, using the [3DASS] system!

Stay tuned!

Peace out!
