In the vast galaxy of Luqinara lies a peculiar and unique planet called Dopheus.

Dopheus is comprised of a distinctive combination of gases, making it one of the most unique and exceptional planets in the known universe. A large number of floating islands, made of lightweight metals, hover high in the clouds of this planet. Some islands boast flourishing tropical life, while others consist more of rocks and metals. Some islands are even volcanically active. The most peculiar creatures found in this extraordinary habitat are the dopplers.

Dopplers are salamander-like beings that walk on two legs, equipped with gills capable of filtering life-sustaining gases from the atmosphere above Dopheus. They possess great intelligence and are remarkable engineers—their greatest achievement being the creation of special airships designed to travel from island to island on this immense planet.

However, the strangest aspect of dopplers isn’t their reptilian appearance or intelligence—it’s the fact that dopplers are always born as identical twins. Their two bodies are almost considered a single entity, sharing intelligence, personality, appearance, yet existing as two physically separate bodies capable of telepathically communicating across all of Dopheus. This unique trait enables dopplers to work and exist in ways entirely different from other beings. They have two bodies to execute the thoughts of one mind!

Dopheus is governed by a council led by dopplers, simply called the Council. All major decisions are made within this Council, operating as a form of democratic governance. Dopplers can present their cases, big or small, following which decisions are reached by the dopplers within the Council. All trade, conflicts, and property matters are governed by the Council. Or so it was until recently.

For as long as anyone knows, the outer atmosphere of Dopheus has been shielded by an electric outer layer, preventing any external entities from penetrating the inner atmosphere unless dopplers deactivated the shield through portals from within. The shield was sustained by ancient stone structures called monoliths, housing various precious crystals that generated an electrical charge, forming a layer atop the outer atmosphere. However, inexplicably, the crystals were suddenly removed, deactivating the shield. Before the dopplers could retrieve the crystals and reactivate the shield, another alien race arrived at Dopheus, known as the Sentinels.
These colossal machines breached the atmosphere and settled on various islands around Dopheus, systematically exterminating dopplers and engaging their airships. Teetering on the brink of civil war and anarchy, in a desperate attempt to halt the Sentinels, the Council issued a decree: whoever could find the crystals and reactivate the shield over Dopheus, thereby stopping the invasion, would be declared Emperor over all dopplers and the sole ruler of Dopheus. Every opportunistic and adventurous doppler has thus taken up the challenge, ready to fight against the Sentinels and each other in pursuit of power, wealth, and fame!

Here is the translated account of the day when the Sentinels invaded Dopheus, as recounted by the great adventurer Zumbar:
The skies had a strange lilac-red hue, unlike anything I’d ever seen before. The color resembled that of the portals when the shield was down, confirming my worst fears. The shield encompassing all of Dopheus was down. I was on a mission in my ship, the Spearbreaker, on a remote island far from settlements when I heard booming noises. On the horizon, I saw a mighty six-legged structure or spacecraft crashing through the atmosphere. It was enormous! Unlike any other vessel I had seen in this or any other world, and I immediately knew this would alter the world as I knew it. My instincts and curiosity drove me closer as the machine, with a gigantic red flame beneath it, crashed onto a nearby volcanic island. It had a black and stony surface, revealing no doors or windows. Immediately after, I was bathed in light from the top of the machine—a red, laser-like, deadly light. Then came a blast, like a massive electrical discharge, and my ship was hit head-on by a projectile. Fortunately, my shield was up. The projectile pierced the shield but fortunately deflected slightly, not hitting the Spearbreaker head-on but along its side. We immediately lost altitude as the gas chambers were damaged, and I quickly turned the ship and fled. The machine fired at us again, but thankfully, we had reached safety and could land the Spearbreaker on a tropical island while repairing it. At that very moment, my other physical half and I were in a meeting of the Council, and from there, a warning was issued that the shield had been deactivated, and we were under attack from an external foe. In the days that followed, any united front against what we later learned to be the Sentinels was destroyed, and the Council attempted a final declaration to locate the crystals and restart a monolith to prevent new Sentinels from breaching the atmosphere. A peaceful and magnificent planet was thereafter shrouded in the darkness that war and destruction leave behind everywhere. I fear for the fate of Dopheus. – Zumbar
